Entrepreneurship Studies – Interrogating Value Creation

This course invites students to critically explore the multifaceted nature of entrepreneurship, examining its social, cultural, economic, and ethical dimensions.

By integrating practical and theoretical perspectives, students will encounter the evolution of entrepreneurial thought and practice across different contexts and geographies. The course emphasizes the importance of understanding entrepreneurship as a broader social phenomenon that can drive innovation, address societal challenges, and create value in diverse and often unexpected ways. The course is strongly aligned with the European framework for entrepreneurial competences (EntreComp).

Throughout the module, students will engage with foundational theories and contemporary debates in entrepreneurship studies. They will analyze case studies, participate in interactive workshops, and collaborate on projects that challenge conventional notions of entrepreneurship. The course is structured to include a series of online mini-courses and group exercises, combining self-paced study materials with collaborative learning experiences.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop a critical understanding of entrepreneurship as a social phenomenon.
  • Analyze the social, cultural, economic, and ethical dimensions of entrepreneurship.
  • Engage with and critique foundational and contemporary theories in entrepreneurship studies.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for value creation in diverse contexts.
  • Foster innovative thinking and problem-solving skills.

Course Structure:

  • Online Mini-Courses (5 ECTS): Covering key competences such as spotting opportunities, creativity, vision, valuing ideas, and ethical thinking.
  • Group Work: Interactive sessions to apply theoretical knowledge through small projects and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Individual Project (Optional, 5 ECTS): Development of a value creation project, applying concepts learned to real-world challenges, with guidance and support from educators.

By fostering critical and reflexive thinking, the course aims to equip students with the skills to identify and seize opportunities, develop innovative solutions, and contribute meaningfully to their communities and beyond. Whether aspiring entrepreneurs, educators, or change-makers, students will leave the course with a deeper understanding of how entrepreneurial activities can be harnessed for social good and sustainable development. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to earn up to 5 ECTS points upon completion of the course with additional course work.

The course is part of the ENTREHUBS Summer School program, leveraging the Entrepreneurship Competence Framework and the ENTREHUBS Model to create an interdisciplinary and experiential learning journey. Through this program, students will not only gain theoretical insights but also practical experience in value co-creation and collaboration with external stakeholders.
