Valuing Ideas Afternoon Session
Introduction: Some ideas’ brilliance can only be understood thanks to the persistence of their proponents who show great determination. Of course, not every idea can be conceived and pursued perfectly. But if you trust yourself and the facts of your research, you should go all the way. Below are 3 scenarios that follow their ideas to the end.
Scenarios:
- Car Investor
Imagine that it is the beginning of the 20th century and you are attempting to invest newly invented motorised vehicles (cars). From a 21st century perspective, doesn’t it seem like a great idea? But remember that you are in the 20th century.
- Video Games Seller
It’s 1973, and a revolution is happening in the entertainment industry. Tiny boxes that can be connected to televisions contain dozens of games, and not only children but also adults are going crazy for these games. You are thinking about seizing this opportunity and selling these devices in your decently performing store instead of selling candles.
- Online Marketing
You are a farmer from 1990. You’ve been hearing about something called the internet that is becoming increasingly popular among people. After doing some research, you realize that even though you don’t fully understand the technology, there’s a vast world behind it, and you think you can sell the oranges you produce through this new technology.
What criticisms could you expect from your friends/family who love you from their heart but have a limited vision and what would be your responses to these criticisms?
You should come up with at least 5 points of objection of others and defence of yours.
Steps:
- Select a Scenario: Everyone should individually think about a scenario and make a suggestion. Then the group should come together and agree on a common scenario as a group.(*suggested time:5 min)
